A thing never before seen by me in fact. A BMW 420i x drive.
Might be commonplace for some but I’m in one of those places where it’s almost unheard of for a BMW to have spark plugs (so it would always be a 420d) and nobody buys four wheel drive models apart from the X models.

Can’t blaze it without spark plugs.

They are everywhere here. Well 428's. I think the 420 is a new naming convention that started this year.

Meanwhile in Canada, pretty much every single BMW, Mercedes, and of course Audi is AWD and gas powered.

Porsche did 9/11!
Wait, no; that was 911.

is it a coincidence that the 911 came out in 1964
1 + 9 + 6 + 4 = 20.
you thought I was going somewhere with this.

We’ve always had 320s and 420s. The turbo ones are 328s and 428s. I think. Like I said we’re diesel-only with BMW.

Cheap petrol and lots of snow will do that for you.
Interestingly I hear that in sometimes snowy Sweden people aren’t so much into 4wd. Studs are the way forward there.

well, 1964/20 is 98.2. 98.2*(9/11) is 80.345454545..., which when multiplied by 911 = INSIDE JOB, so basically loomynarti confirm.

Here in ’Murrica the 320i has a heavily-detuned version of the same motor in the 328i. We don’t have a 420i though.

So many potheads are gonna buy those badges to put “i420" on the backs of their cars.

Damn. In the US, we only have the turbocharged 3- and 4-series, or a single turbodiesel model (the 328d). I’d forgotten they made an NA engine still.

Same motors, but we don’t get the 420i with the detuned 2.0 I4 turbo in the US/CAN. I think it would be a good value.
320i = 180 hp
328i = 240 hp
420i = 180 hp
428i = 240 hp
But in the end it comes down to federalization cost with each powertrain choice and maybe exclusivity preventing the 420i from being offered here.
Also, I believe our 328d is the 320d in the rest of the world.

Warum?

most Europeans don't want all the power in a 428 or above, and instead settle for a cheaper price with less power this hold true for the 3 series, a4 and c class as well, as mb sells classes with hp in the low 100s throughout Europe

Indeed, but I was more wondering why people in Germany would buy a 420i rather than a 420d.
The car I saw was I think the first petrol 4 that I recall seeing.
